Police Hunt Fleeing Cultists Over Rivers Chiefs’ Killings

The Rivers State Police Command says it has intensified a manhunt for the suspected cultists who allegedly murdered two chiefs in Baa Loore and Luebe communities in the Khana Local Government Area of the state.

This came as the member representing the Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Dumnamene Deko, said the government would go after the gunmen, who attacked both communities a fortnight ago.

The spokesperson for the command, Nnamdi Omoni, told our correspondent on Monday that the police had increased their presence in the communities, adding that operatives were on the trail of the gangsters.

He stated, “We are still on their trail. No arrest has been made yet. We are working seriously to ensure that the cultists are arrested and made to face justice.

“We have beefed up security in the communities and increased our presence there to guard against any form of reprisal. As we speak, our men are patrolling the areas.”

Deko, on his part, said, “I have been to the palace of the king of the Bangha Kingdom, where I was made to understand that six persons were earlier killed and that those ones were cultists, who fought and killed themselves.

“I have also gone to Baa Loore, where a chief was murdered and his house burnt. In Luebe, a chief was also murdered. Every day, innocent persons are being killed. Two chiefs have been killed and the only crime they committed was coming from this area.

“Whatever they (cultists) are called, Iceland, De-Gbam, De-Well, a stop should be put to this.”

He added that another police division would be established in Khana as the application to that effect was before the Inspector-General of Police for approval.
