Police Issue Directive To Doctors On Treatment Of Emergency Victims

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, CP Haruna Garba has sent a fresh directive to medical personnel in the FCT.

Garba urged doctors to treat patients in distress without police report in order to save lives.

The CP stated this on Tuesday at the Command Headquarters, Abuja during a press briefing to acquaint members of the public with the command’s achievements in the fight against crime and criminality.

Speaking on the alleged disappearance of male genitals, Garba warned that no form of jungle justice would be tolerated.

Reacting to the tragic passing of Olorunfemi, a victim of “one-chance robbers” who died at the Maitama General Hospital where she was allegedly denied treatment for not providing a police report, the CP said, “It is wrong for a medical doctor not to attend to a patient that is in distress.”

According to the Police boss, it has been in the public domain that, even if the person is an “armed robber” he or she should be alive to defend himself in court.

He stressed “We have repeatedly told medical personnel at a press briefing that anytime they receive somebody with bullet wounds, they should accept the victim at their hospital, save the person’s life and alert the police.

“There is nothing more than that. As you alert the police, the victim is been treated and the police will come there and do the needful. In this particular case, we have already invited the Chief Medical Director of the hospital to find out exactly whether what happened is true.” he said
