Police Kill Suspected ESN Member, Recover Weapons in Imo

The Imo State Police Command announced on Wednesday that it successfully thwarted an attempted attack by suspected members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), an affiliate of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), resulting in the death of one assailant.

State Police Public Relations Officer Henry Okoye shared the details with journalists, showcasing the deceased suspect’s body along with recovered items at the police headquarters in Owerri.

According to the police, the incident occurred on October 29, 2024, at approximately 6:30 PM, when the Counter Terrorism Unit intercepted the attack during a routine patrol on the Owerri/Aba Road, near Owerri Airport.

Around ten assailants attacked from two vehicles but were successfully repelled. During the encounter, one suspect was neutralized, while the others fled with injuries, abandoning their operational vehicle—a Lagos-registered Mercedes Jeep (AAA 101 GR).

The police recovered an AK-47 rifle, fifteen rounds of 9.62mm ammunition, an IPOB/ESN flag, and the abandoned vehicle. Ongoing operations are underway to locate the remaining suspects, with searches being conducted in nearby areas.
