Eko Hot Blog reports that a delegation sent by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has paid a condolence visit to the family of Bolanle Raheem, the pregnant lawyer who was shot dead by a policeman on Christmas Day.
According to a statement issued by the Lagos Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, on Tuesday, Sanwo-Olu’s representatives reinforced his stand on justice for the family.
Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyo Onigbanjo, SAN, a member of the delegation, said he will lead the prosecution of the killer cop.
“We have the permission of Mr. Governor to tell you that justice will be done in this matter. The matter will be charged to court as soon as the police send us the case file,” he said.
“I will be leading the prosecution to show the seriousness the government attaches to this matter.”
Special Adviser on Innovation and Technology, Olatunbosun Alake, said the governor urged the family to take heart. He prayed that the Almighty would console the family.
The husband of the late Bolanle, Mr. Gbenga Raheem, was said to have thanked Sanwo-Olu for his empathy.
Also in the delegation were the Head of Service, Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola, who signed the condolence register on behalf of the government, Women and Poverty Alleviation Commissioner, Mrs. Bolaji Dada and Omotoso.
Later on Tuesday, the Lagos police commissioner, Abiodun Alabi, visited the family of the deceased and vowed to ensure swift justice.
Raheem’s mother lamented that her daughter, who was pregnant with twins, was taken from her.
Recall that the lawyer was shot dead on Sunday when she and her family were returning home from a Christmas Day service.
