Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, has voiced his strong disapproval of Omoyele Sowore’s arrest calling on the Nigerian Police to either release activist Omoyele Sowore or formally charge him in court.
Eko Hot Blog reports that, Obi made his concerns known on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating that the police’s decision to detain a citizen who willingly came in for questioning erodes public trust in the country’s institutions.

He emphasized his concern that Sowore was detained despite voluntarily complying with a police summons and that no clear or credible charges have been publicly disclosed.
He stressed that the rule of law must be upheld for all citizens, regardless of their political beliefs or ideology
Obi reiterated his demand for Sowore’s immediate release or for the police to present a formal charge in court, warning that anything less would further damage the public’s confidence in law enforcement agencies.
