Operatives of Jigawa State Police Command have arrested seven persons believed to be responsible for cattle theft in the north-western state.
The command’s spokesperson, Lawal Shiisu, confirmed the development in a statement in Dutse on Wednesday.
Shiisu said that two of the suspects were apprehended on Tuesday after a combined patrol team intercepted a vehicle carrying three cows and 11 sheep in the Ringim area of the state.
“On Tuesday, 26/11/2024, at about 3 p.m., a combined team of police and other security agencies, while on patrol at Kirdau village in Ringim, intercepted a vehicle loaded with three cows and 11 sheep.
“The driver of the vehicle and his assistant later confessed that they stole the animals,” Shiisu said.
According to him, when interrogated, the duo mentioned the names of five other members of the syndicate who were later apprehended at Unguwa Uku area of Kano state.
“All the five suspects have confessed to committing the offence and will be charged to court upon completion of our discreet investigation, ” he said.
