Eko Hot Blog reports that in a horrifying incident that shocks the community, Hauwa Shagari, a pregnant mother of three, suffers a brutal attack at the hands of her husband.
The disagreement, which initially seems minor, quickly escalates into a violent altercation, leaving Hauwa hospitalized and disabled.
“He starts making trouble, and the men try to stop him, but he would not listen,” Hauwa recounts, her voice trembling with the weight of the trauma. “Before I knew what was happening, he takes a cutlass and starts cutting the pawpaw tree I planted in the compound.”
However, the unthinkable happens when her husband, Police Inspector Ibrahim Shagari, turns the cutlass towards her. “Next, I hear neighbors shouting, ‘He has cut her hand, he has cut her hand.’ I see blood, and my daughter is crying,” she says, reliving the harrowing moment.
The incident sparks widespread outrage, with concerned stakeholders demanding justice for Hauwa and calling for accountability.
The state’s Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Caroline Dafur, and the Chairperson of the Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission, Olivia Dazyam, visit the victim and vow to ensure justice is served.
“No woman deserves to be treated with such cruelty and violence, and it is even more unacceptable that this act is committed by a person sworn to protect and serve – a so-called Police officer,” Dafur states, condemning the act in the strongest terms.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Hauwa’s resilience shines through, inspiring hope for a future free from violence and fear.
