Fake Policeman Arrested For Defrauding PoS Operators
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, Bukola Olabode, for allegedly defrauding Point of Sale (PoS) operators and residents of Ihunbo in Ipokia Local Government Area while impersonating a police officer.
Residents reportedly apprehended Olabode on Tuesday after he attempted a fraudulent transaction and handed him over to the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC). The NSCDC later transferred the suspect to the Idiroko Police Division for further investigation.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that according to the Ogun State Police Command, Olabode disguised himself in a police camouflage shirt paired with jeans to deceive his victims. His fraudulent activities were exposed when he visited the PoS stand of an operator, Mary Midoyin.
Police spokesperson Omolola Odutola explained that the suspect, upon being discovered, made a fake transfer of ₦60,000 to the operator and fled. However, residents pursued and caught him.
“A Samsung phone, a black Itel phone used for the fraud, and a police constabulary warrant card were recovered from the suspect. He also had a police camouflage shirt, cap, and other items in his possession,” Odutola stated.
Olabode has reportedly confessed to defrauding several PoS operators in the community.
This incident echoes a similar case reported in 2022, where a 38-year-old man, Akinyemi Thomas, was arrested for impersonating a police officer while wearing a full camouflage uniform beneath a bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Motorway.
The police have assured residents of their commitment to curbing impersonation and fraudulent activities in the state.
