Police Question Rivers Officers Linked To Alleged Kidnapping And More

Eko Hot Blog reports that the following allegations of unprofessionalism, kidnapping and other misconducts leveled against some officers of the Rivers State Police Command, and the intervention of the acting Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, the affected officers are now facing interrogation by the IGP Monitoring Unit.

Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun

The officers’ interrogation was part of ongoing investigation to unravel the allegations and ascertain its veracity for disciplinary action, following a petition by one lsrael Joe on behalf of Mr. Atubi Davison.

The interrogation followed a viral video in which a police officer allegedly arrested Davidon, who is into pipeline surveillance and N120 million was found in his possession.

He was allegedly taken to the Command on the ground that he was into cybercrime. They reportedly negotiated and collected over N90 million from him on the grounds that they were giving the IGP N30 million out of the money before he was released.

Dissatisfied with the way he was treated; a petition was later written to the IGP by one Israel Joe on his behalf narrating all that transpired between the victim and the Rivers State Police officers.

Confirming the development, police spokesperson, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Nigeria Police Force views the allegations with the utmost seriousness and is fully committed to conducting a comprehensive and transparent investigation.

“To ensure fairness and impartiality, the complainant who made these allegations will be contacted to come forward and cooperate by providing more relevant information regarding the matter.

“The Inspector-General of Police, therefore, cautions the public about fraudulent individuals, who always attempt to exploit the reputation of the IGP and other senior officers for personal gain.

“He urges members of the public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of anyone claiming to represent Senior Police Officers in any dubious activities, while reporting such to the NPF and the Force Public Relations Officer or the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) desk in any state of the Federation.”
