Police Raise Alarm Over Plots To Attack Churches, Mosques In Lagos

The Nigeria police force says it has at its disposal an intelligence that some criminals are strategising on how to unleash terror on religious houses and worshippers centers in the state during the yuletide season.

Eko Hot Blog reports Hakeem Odumosu, commissioner of police in Lagos, disclosed this at briefing on Wednesday.

He was responding to questions on the security alert issued by the Department of State Services (DSS) on Tuesday.

The DSS on Tuesday had drawn the public attention to likelihood of violent attacks in public places and soft spots during the holidays.

The service implored Nigerians to be on the constant look out for any sign of threat to public peace, saying it was collaborating with other agencies for the protection of lives and property.

Speaking on the development, Odumosu said the intelligence came from Abuja and that the police force has set plans in motion to ensure that the diabolical plot is thwarted

He also disclosed that the force had pinpointed susceptible places in the state and put measures in place deployment to forestall any attack.

“The intelligence report came out and specifically said that churches and mosques are targets of the attacks,” Odumosu said.

“We are working on that, everyone should rest assured that there is adequate security and they go about their lawful businesses without fear.”
