- The Nigeria Police have urged organizers to cancel the April 7 nationwide protest, citing security concerns.
- Police say the protest clashes with National Police Day, a key event honoring officers’ service.
- Organizers are encouraged to seek dialogue with government instead of public demonstrations.
The Nigeria Police Force has advised the Take It Back Movement (TIB) and other groups to cancel their planned nationwide protest set for April 7.
The protest, organized by civil society groups, is meant to draw attention to the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act and the recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.

According to TIB National Coordinator, Juwon Sanyaolu, the demonstration is meant to highlight these pressing concerns.
However, the police, in a statement by their spokesperson, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, urged the organizers to cancel the protest. They described it as poorly timed and suspicious.

The police explained that April 7 is National Police Day, a day set aside by the Federal Government to honor the dedication and service of police officers. The day will feature celebrations attended by top officials from Nigeria and abroad, including former Inspectors-General of Police and diplomats.
The police said they support the right of citizens to peaceful protest, as guaranteed by the Constitution, but raised concerns about the motive for holding the protest on the same day as the National Police Day.
