Police React To Claims Of ‘Kidnapped’ Lagos DPO

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Police Command has dismissed a rumour that a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) has been kidnapped.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, debunked the claim in a post on X on Wednesday.

The identity of the DPO and where the rumour emanated from were not immediately clear.
However, Hundeyin, who did not reveal the DPO’s identity, said the there was no truth to the claim of a kidnap.
He disclosed that the officer was currently in his office.

“We wish to debunk the rumor making the rounds that a Lagos DPO was kidnapped. There is absolutely no truth in this claim,” the police spokesperson wrote.
“The said DPO is in his office, carrying out his duty of ensuring safety of lives and property within his area of responsibility.
“We sincerely thank all those who called this morning out of concern. We appreciate the concern.
“We indeed feel loved and promise to continue to discharge our duties professionally.”
The police have been subjected to deadly attacks in recent months.
In May, more than 100 hoodlums suspected to be commercial motorcycle operators attacked a police station in Lagos.
Same month, the Enugu State Police Command disclosed that two policemen and three members of Neighbourhood watch were killed in Uzo-Uwani council area of Enugu state.
The Police said the crisis was fuelled by elements they referred to as “harboured criminal members of the Iggah Community”.
