Eko Hot Blog reports that the Lagos State Police Command has recaptured a suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, nearly two years after he escaped police custody.
Opeyemi escaped police custody in August 2021 in handcuffs.
A welder, Aliu Tijani, subsequently helped the fugitive cut off his restraint.
In a terse statement on Sunday, the police spokesperson in Lagos, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed that Tijani was arrested alongside Opeyemi whom he aided and abetted.
He added that both suspects have been arraigned and remanded at a correctional centre.
“Suspected cultist, Wasiu Opeyemi, escaped from police custody in August, 2021 in handcuffs,” Hundeyin wrote on Twitter.
“Last week, he was rearrested alongside Aliu Tijani, the welder who cut off the handcuffs when he escaped the first time.
“They have both been arraigned and are currently in remand.”
