EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a recent development, operatives of the Kano State Police Command have recovered four AK-47 rifles from some fleeing suspected criminals in Garko Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, made the announcement in a statement released on Friday, April 28, 2023.
According to the statement, the weapons were discovered in a sack that was abandoned by one of the occupants of a Lite-Hiace Bus during a stop and search operation along Kano-Bauchi road.
The team of Safer Highway Patrol from the Department of Operations, Kano State Command were on an intelligence-led stop and search operation at Kwanar Garko, Garko LGA, Kano State when they sighted a Lite-Hiace Bus Motor Vehicle trying to change direction with an occupant coming down holding a suspicious item.
“On swift response by the team, the occupant dropped the item, zoomed off and escaped the scene. On the spot search, a sack containing four (4) AK-47 Rifles was discovered. An effort is intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects,” the statement read.
The Acting Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, DCP Mu’azu U. Mohammed appreciated the good people of the State for their support, encouragement and cooperation.
The recovery of the four AK-47 rifles is a significant breakthrough in the fight against criminal elements in the state, as the weapons are commonly used by bandits and other criminals for their nefarious activities. The police have intensified efforts to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects involved in the illegal possession of these weapons.
