Enugu State police spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent Daniel Ndukwe, confirmed the incident in a statement on Saturday, noting that it took place on Thursday evening. Ndukwe dismissed reports claiming that “countless” students were kidnapped during the attack as “false and misleading.”
According to Ndukwe, police operatives received a tip-off about the abduction and quickly responded. They managed to rescue two of the victims at the scene, while three others remain missing.
The police have launched an extensive operation to locate the remaining victims and apprehend the perpetrators EKO HOT BLOG reports.
Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed vigorous efforts to rescue the abducted students.
This incident comes on the heels of another abduction in the state on the same day, involving Dr. Innocent Nwoga, the medical director of Ukehe General Hospital. He was kidnapped along the Egede-Ninth Mile-Nsukka Road.
In recent weeks, there has been a rise in ransom-related abductions throughout Enugu State and the broader South-East region. Last week, gunmen also abducted three individuals in Nkpologwu Community, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State. The status of those abducted remains unknown.
