Eko Hot Blog reports that in a bid to rescue the kidnapped Edo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Tony Aziegbemi, the State Police Command operatives have conducted extensive searches in creeks and forests across the state.
Recall that Aziegbemi was kidnapped last Friday at about 11:00 pm by six armed men in front of his house after a meeting with the State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, at the Government House.
It was reported that the State Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye, gave an update on efforts being made to rescue the PDP leader.
“We have intensified our patrol, we were in the creeks yesterday (Sunday), around Ologbo, Obayantor and other parts of the state.
“We are not leaving any stone unturned; we are already on the trail of the people that perpetrated that crime and I can assure you that in no distant time, we are going to rescue him unhurt,” he said.
The commissioner, who also spoke on the security situation in Edo State, added, “We have observed that some unscrupulous elements have turned this state to a situation where guns are just like catapults. This is not good for the society and we are not going to allow it.
“For example, recently, because of what is happening, there is a rise in some criminal activities both in the Benin City metropolis and some other parts of the state. We have stepped up our actions against hoodlums operating in whatever guise.
“We are going to have a total lockdown on criminal activities in the state. We have started since Friday and we are working in conjunction and collaboration with our sister agencies, the military, the DSS, the Civil Defense Corps and other agencies.
“In this state, it is quite astonishing and almost unbelievable that people are now carrying arms. These were recovered within a spate of four days from different parts of the state. This is absolutely scary and we will not allow it.
“The Vigilantes are wonderful, otherwise, hoodlums had wanted to take over this state, which we are not going to allow. We will not allow any form of criminality in the state, we are battle-ready for them.”
