Police Service Commission to Introduce Written Exams for Promotions

The Management of the Police Service Commission (PSC) has announced plans to introduce written examinations as a prerequisite for promotion within the Nigerian Police Force.

This initiative aims to enhance the quality and capacity of personnel management in the force.

The Chairman of the Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd), disclosed this during a meeting with a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), led by Mr. Paul Turay.

He stated that the introduction of examinations is part of the Commission’s strategy to eradicate corruption in police recruitment, promotion, and discipline.

The UNDP team visited the Commission to brief its new leadership on ongoing collaborations and to secure their commitment to sustaining these partnerships.

EKO HOT BLOG gathered that during the meeting, DIG Argungu, accompanied by DIG Taiwo Lakanu (rtd), Hon. Commissioner and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani, Secretary to the Commission, affirmed the Commission’s dedication to advancing existing UNDP-funded programs. These initiatives include a digital portal for police recruitment, promotion, and discipline, which is expected to help curb corruption within the force.

Argungu assured that the new leadership will leverage the partnership with the UNDP to bring about positive innovations, particularly through the use of information technology. He reiterated that the written examination requirement is intended to ensure the efficient management of police personnel.

He also appealed for continued support from the UNDP to empower the Commission in its mandate to appoint, promote, and discipline officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force. The new leadership, he said, is committed to strengthening the Commission’s powers and minimizing corruption in its operations.

Mr. Paul Turay, leader of the UNDP delegation, congratulated the new leadership and expressed the UNDP’s commitment to reinforcing its partnership with the Commission. He emphasized the importance of continuity and sustainability in the ongoing programs and pledged the UNDP’s continued engagement.

Other members of the UNDP delegation included Napoleon Idamwenhor Enayaba and Chinpihol Kipgen of the Data Unit. DIG Lakanu (rtd), Hon. Commissioner, and Chief Onyemuche Nnamani also pledged the Commission’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the UNDP.
