Police Stray Bullet Kills Boy Watching Football In Lagos
A stray bullet from a team of policemen, last night, killed a boy who was watching the English Premiership football match between Liverpool and Tottenham, in Agege area of Lagos.
The incident sparked a protest as angry youths took over the street to protest the killing.
They barricaded the Agege Road, preventing vehicular movement.
Vanguard was informed that the policemen attached to Anti-Cultism Unit were chasing a suspect, during which one of them opened fire on the fleeing suspect.
Unfortunately, the bullet hit the deceased on Olu Aboderin Street, Onipetesi area of Agege.
One of the youths, Ekene, said:
“We were watching the football match when some policemen ran into the street. Before we knew it, they started shooting. One of the bullets hit a viewer. The boy was rushed to the hospital. Sadly, he could not make it.”
When contacted, spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Elkana Bala, said: “We also got the information.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Zubairu Muazu, has deployed teams of policemen there to disperse the protesters that barricaded the road. After that, investigation will begin to ascertain what happened.”
