A policeman with the Delta State Police Command has shot dead his female colleague while attempting to disperse a protest staged by some traders in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
The incident occurred at the Bonsaac area of Asaba and the policeman is attached to the ‘B’ Division of the state Police Command in Asaba.
He was said to be dispersing the protesting when he fired a shot which killed the female colleague instantly.

The policeman and four other colleagues were drafted from the ‘B’ Division to quell the protest staged against a chairman of petty traders which majority of the traders were against.
A witness disclosed that the protest went awry when the policeman opened fire, hitting his female colleague who died immediately.
“Following the death of the policewoman, police operatives later came to the area and arrested some of the traders.
Three of the arrested petty traders were however said to have been released on Monday, September 30.
The state Police Commissioner, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke, confirmed the death of the policeman on Monday, adding that 15 suspects were in detention for questioning.
