Eko Hot Blog reports that the spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign council, Festus Keyamo, and the immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, sparred on Twitter on Sunday.
The unsavoury exchange of words started after Dogara responded to a tweet by President Muhammadu Buhari who said the presidential candidate of the APC, Bola Tinubu, would give his best to the country if elected president.
“Today in Lafia, Nasarawa State, I delivered my message: VOTE Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the next President of Nigeria, and VOTE Governor Abdullahi Sule for a 2nd term!
“I have known Asiwaju for more than 20 years; he is a committed Nigerian; he will give his best to Nigeria!” Buhari’s tweet reads.
The former speaker made mockery of the president’s claim that Tinubu will give his best to Nigeria if elected president, describing it as a satire.
“I know that PMB loves to crack jokes but I didn’t know he will escalate it to the level of satire. Asiwaju ll give his best to Nigeria, really? Fake certificates, fake parentage, golden triangle escapades, racketeering. No PMB, Nigeria does not deserve his best but we get the satire,” Dogara tweeted.
Offended by the lawmaker’s words, Keyamo described him as a “political prostitute” and “backstabber” in a tweet.
“My brother and law school mate, Dogara, this tweet is beneath you. You are actually pained by the support of PMB for Tinubu, two leaders who have stayed true to their beliefs and causes, unlike the political prostitute, wanderer & back-stabber that you’ve always been,” the Minister of State for Labour tweeted.
Dogara responded, saying though they were mates in law school, they are not mates in politics.
The former speaker consequently challenged Keyamo to win a councilorship election first so they could be mates in politics.
“In spite of what we now know and what you have said before about your candidate, we haven’t rushed to the Courts, yet you feel so entitled to call us names! My good friend, the law I studied was to save me from the morass of propaganda by gaslighters-in-chief and their ilks,” he tweeted.
“My brother, I have a name for you but because it’s not a good one, I won’t say it as a cost of friendship. Yes, we were mates at Law School but I am waiting for you to win a councilorship election first so we can be mates in politics.
“Learn to punch below your weight category.”
Keyamo sent another reply to the former speaker, saying it’s sad he was judged by elections won and lost.
The junior minister noted that he’s reached the height of the legal professional, calling on the lawmaker to respect his “senior at the bar.”
“My brother, it is sad you think everyone must be rated by elections won and lost. You’ve just insulted millions of Nigerians in their various fields of endeavour. Let me remind you that I’ve reached the height of our profession & you must learn to respect your senior at the bar!” Keyamo tweeted.
Dogara was a member of the APC at the time Tinubu emerged as the party’s presidential candidate but he ditched the former Lagos governor for the PDP candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
