A Magistrate Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Thursday granted controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, popularly known as Portable, bail in the sum of N2 million.
Eko Hot Blog reports that, Portable, who is facing charges of assault on government officials, appeared in court after being declared wanted by the Ogun State Command.
The singer, known for his hit song Zazoo-zeh, had walked into the Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) in Lagos on Wednesday before being transferred to the Ogun State Police Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
He was arraigned on five charges, including conspiracy, assault, and illegal conduct, along with allegations of carrying cutlasses and guns. Portable, however, pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The charges stem from an incident involving the assault of three town planning officers, Abidemi Onabanjo, Ramon Lateef, and Akinpelumi Oyero, who were allegedly obstructed and assaulted while carrying out their duties at Odogwu Bar, owned by the singer.
In a related case, nine of Portable’s associates were previously arraigned on similar charges on February 6. The suspects, aged between 19 and 28, face accusations of assault, restriction, and obstruction of the town planners.
The case has been adjourned until March 5, when further proceedings will take place. The court granted Portable bail on the condition of a N2 million bond, pending the outcome of the ongoing legal process.
