EKO HOT BLOG reports that Chelsea’s new boss, Graham Potter has revealed that the squad need to “improve” following their 1-1 draw with Red Bull Salzburg in his first game in charge.
The Blues have gone through a big change this past week with Thomas Tuchel being replaced by Potter.
Tuchel’s sacking surprised many after Chelsea’s defeat to Dinamo Zagreb last week with Todd Boehly moving swiftly to bring in Potter and his staff.
The former Brighton boss had little under a week working with his new team to get them ready for his system against Salzburg.
And he made a number of changes with Raheem Sterling playing as an attacking full-back while Thiago Silva was flanked by Marc Cucurella and Cesar Azpilicueta in defence.
Sterling eventually opened the scoring for Chelsea midway through the second half, but Chelsea failed to put the tie to bed and were punished when a mistake from Silva allowed Salzburg through to score an equaliser.
Chelsea pushed for a winner late on, but couldn’t find a way through Salzburg’s rigid defence. Potter refused to lay any blame on his players, but admits he already knows where they need to “improve”.
We’re disappointed with the result in the end,” he said on BT Sport. “I thought the boys gave everything, I really did.
Attacked quite well, missed a little bit in the final third but they defended well and got some good blocks in. Scored a good goal, lost a little bit in the second period of the second half but responded well again. Their keeper has made some good saves.
