Pregnant Woman Dies After Being Kicked During Fight In Ebonyi

A 32-year-old pregnant woman identified as Jane Ekpe died after she was allegedly kicked in the stomach by one Florence Ugwu during a fight in Ebonyi state.

The incident happened at the Okwo Ngbo market in Ohaukwu local government area of the State on July 11.

According to a witness, the pregnant lady was kicked in the stomach by a lady, Ugwu, while fighting.

In a short time, the pregnant lady who was severely injured started bleeding, and was rushed to the hospital where she was delivered of the premature baby before she died.

Reacting to the sad incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Loveth Odah, confirmed the incident.

The PPRO also disclosed that the Commissioner of Police, Philip Sule Maku put up an investigation into the incident.

Odah said; “One Chief Bartholomew Ekpe regent of Umuezeoka ngbo reported at Ohaukwu Division that on July 11, by 1 pm while they were at Okwo market his daughter Jane Ekpe aged 32 who was about six months pregnant was kicked in her stomach by one Florence Ugwu aged 34 over an undisclosed argument.

“He stated that that his daughter started bleeding profusely and was rushed to hospital where she was delivered of the premature baby, and she gave up the ghost.

“The DPO quickly mobilized his men to the place and recovered the corpse and deposited at Comprehensive hospital Ngbo.

“The suspect was immediately arrested and detained in their station while preliminary investigation is ongoing but the case is beyond their division.”
