Presidency Set To Key Into Local Herbs To Treat COVID-19 Patients

The Buhari administration through Minister of Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire has assured that they would conduct basic research on local herbs to cure COVID-19 patients.

Dr. Osagie Ehanire who disclosed this during the daily press briefing on COVID-19 in Abuja said that before any local herb is administered to a COVID-19 patient, the Nigerian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development must investigate the veracity of the drugs.

The Minister of health further clarified that local herbs can either be used to cure COVID-19 or reduce the impact of the virus.

His words, “Before now, it was said that Chloroquine can destroy the virus. But the test is still going on in that regard.

“We have to test the efficacy of local drugs to see if it can kill the virus and also to find out that is in the process of killing the virus, it can affect the body. So, the Institute will carry out the required test on the local drugs to find out how it can work”.

In the same vein, Ekohotblog recalls that Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Adewusi had earlier suggested the Nigerian government key into local herbs to fight the ongoing pandemic.
