Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, has disclosed how a man who works at a fish-processing factory in Ghana’s Atlantic seafront city of Tema infected 533 other workers at the facility with the COVID-19

President Nana Akufo-Addo made the announcement during a nationwide address yesterday night.

He further lifted the three weeks restriction on movement in other parts of the country which were implemented while trying to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The President did not, however, explain how the virus was spread in the factory, or of they had put safety measures in place.

Akufo-Addo went ahead to announce an extension of the ban on public gatherings until the end of May, stressing that schools and universities will remain closed.

According to him, the 533 positive cases, which represent around 11.3% of Ghana’s total infections, were part of a backlog of about 921 cases going back as far as April 26 that are only recently being reported.

“One person infected all 533 persons,” President Akufo-Addo said.

“The implementation of our strategy of aggressively tracking, testing, and treating is our surest way of rooting out the virus,” He added.

Ghana now has 4,700 COVID-19 cases, 494 recoveries, and 22 deaths as of Sunday night.
