EKO HOT BLOG reports that in what could be described as a surprise move, the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, has congratulated Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu, on his victory in the just-concluded presidential election in Nigeria.
The French President’s message was said to have been conveyed to the President-elect through a goodwill message.
Tinubu, who disclosed this while speaking to journalists after presenting his Certificate of Return to President Muhammadu Buhari at his country home in Daura, Katsina State, on Wednesday night, March 1, stated that the stock market reacted positively to his emergence as President-elect.
He further revealed that he had received many messages of congratulations from various parts of the world, including the French President, Emmanuel Macron. Tinubu also confirmed that he had earlier received his Certificate of Return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Abuja before embarking on the trip to Daura alongside his Vice President-elect, Sen. Kashim Shettima.
When asked about the purpose of his visit to President Buhari in Daura, the President-elect stated that he came to present his Certificate of Return to the President as the leader of their party and to commend his efforts in supporting democracy in Africa.
The emergence of Tinubu as Nigeria’s President-elect has generated a lot of interest both within and outside the country. Many analysts believe that his victory could have a significant impact on the country’s political landscape and its relationship with other countries around the world.
Meanwhile, the congratulatory message from President Macron of France is seen as a significant boost to Tinubu’s credibility and the international recognition of his victory.
It is expected that other world leaders will follow suit in congratulating the President-elect in the coming days.
