Primeboy Sues Nigeria Police for Alleged Human Rights Violations
Musical artist Owodunni Ibrahim, popularly known as Primeboy, has taken legal action against the Nigeria Police Force for alleged violations of his fundamental human rights.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that the Lagos State Police Command declared Primeboy wanted on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, after he failed to respond to a police invitation related to the investigation into the death of fellow singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, known as Mohbad.
In a statement released on Thursday, Primeboy’s lawyer, Akinpelu Ogunbona, revealed that the suit was filed in the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos.
Ogunbona stated that Primeboy is seeking the removal of his name from the wanted list, along with other legal reliefs.
“Primeboy has sued the police through an originating motion filed before the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos, on October 11.
He is requesting several reliefs, including a declaration that the special police gazette bulletin issued by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) declaring Primeboy wanted violates his right to dignity. He also seeks to have his name delisted from the wanted list,” the statement noted.
Since Mohbad’s death, Primeboy has been at the center of the controversies surrounding the incident. He turned himself in to the police less than 24 hours after being declared wanted.
Mohbad passed away on September 12 at the age of 27, and the circumstances of his death have generated significant discussion on social media.
Previously a signee of Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in February 2022. Following his death, the Lagos State Police Command established a 13-member special investigation team on September 18, 2023, to probe the circumstances surrounding it.
The case has also resulted in the arrest of Naira Marley and controversial Lagos socialite Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, among others. On September 21, 2023, Mohbad’s body was exhumed for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
