The state Assembly constituted a 13-man panel to scrutinize El-Rufai’s administration, a move that came after Governor Uba Sani raised concerns about the debt burden inherited from the former governor.
During a town hall meeting, Governor Sani highlighted the financial challenges inherited, including a massive debt profile of $587 million, N85 billion, and 115 contractual liabilities.
The Assembly, in a special session, resolved to set up a fact-finding committee to delve into the loans obtained by the immediate past governor. This decision was prompted by a motion brought by Yusuf Mugu, the member representing the Kaura constituency, emphasizing the need for transparency regarding the loans’ conditions.
Wusono affirmed the APC’s commitment to the rule of law and transparency, stating that the probe would shed light on the actual state of affairs. He emphasized the party’s dedication to governance aligned with the people’s interests and urged Nigerians to await the committee’s findings for clarity.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna NLC Chairman, Ayuba Suleiman, advocated for a comprehensive investigation into the unpaid severance packages of over 32,000 workers sacked during El-Rufai’s administration. Suleiman urged the committee to address issues concerning redundancy, severance, and pension allowances in accordance with labor laws.

Efforts to reach El-Rufai for comments on the development were unsuccessful, as his spokesperson, Muyiwa Adekeye, did not respond to inquiries.
It is noteworthy that the Kaduna APC had previously suspended the state APC Women Leader, Maryam Suleiman, for criticizing Governor Sani’s disclosures about the state’s financial situation.
