Prof. Onibon Wins Man Of The Year Award, As CNI Honours Royal Fathers, Permanent Secretaries, KLM, Others

The provost of Michael Otedola College of Primary Education, Noforija, Epe, Lagos State, Professor Onibon Nosirudeen Olajide, was on Thursday, December 10, 2020, won Epe Division Man Of The Year Award at the Epe Division Community Annual Awards (EDCAA 2020), while HRM Oba(Dr) Babatunde Ogunlaja,of Odo-Noforija, HRM Oba (Builder) Aderigbe Asunmo,of Odo- Ayandelu, Tutor General/ Permanent Secretary of Education District III, Dr(Mrs) Ayandele Olufolayimika Abiose, Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Onasanya Shakirudeen Olayiwole, and the late Political Icon in Lagos State, Alhaji (Chief) Lanre Razak, Popularly known as KLM, amongst others, were also honoured by the Organizer of the annual award, The Concerned Nation Builder Initiative(CNI).

While presenting the Man of the Year Award,to Professor Onibon, at MOCPED Multi Purpose Hall, where the event took place, the Non Governmental Organization which has continued to foster more Development for Epe Division since its inception, stated that the honour bestowed on the Provost of MOCPED, was the reflection his personality amongst the good people of the division.

It was pointed out by the group that, the honour was the result of nomination and voting that took place on-line. They said it was in recognition of Professor Onibon’s good support for all and sundry and his unquantifiable developmental contributions to Epe Division and her people. The Award plaque was received by the Deputy Provost of MOCPED, Mr. Joseph Ogunniyi, On behalf of his boss who was unavoidably absent at the event due to official engagement.

The Institution that Prof. Onibon heads, MOCPED, was also awarded the Best Institution of the Year and the plaque of the award was received by some top management staff of the school for the institution.

Speaking on the two awards, Prof. Onibon in his speech delivered by his deputy, commended the CNI for making the nomination and selection process a transparent one and for deeming it fit to bestow the well deserved honour on him. He was also delighted that his Institution was ranked the best in the whole of Epe Division.

He however revealed some of the developments that earned the institution such a good ranking. He explained that the products of the institution are doing well in all ramifications of life and that the 7th Governing Council of the institution headed by Alhaja Sekinat Yusuff has been very supportive of his laudable projects and programmes.

He also stressed that commercial Activities of the institution were improved upon to encourage better patronage from the general public. He described the collaboration with international Agencies for research and others as something that had repositioned MOCPED as the best. He said Professional Diploma had been put in place for those who have Interest in teaching but their disciplines are not from education line.

He said enrolment has been restructured and this is causing increase on the new intakes. He also made it known at the event that the institution is the only institution that has completed its Academic Calendar, despite the COVID-19 effects, due to improvement on the ICT of the school.

This intelligent Professor, who is also very versatile in Islamic knowledge, concluded his speech by thanking CNI for making laudable achievements within a short time of it existence, and advised the group to make more contributions to education in the land.

Royal Personality of the Year Award was received by His Royal Majesty(HRM) Oba (Dr.) Babatunde Ogunlaja, the Aladeshoyin of Odo Noforija Kingdom,in recognition of his fatherly role and cares for his subject s and his good contribution to peace and development in Epe.

The Alayandelu of Odo Ayandelu, HRM Oba(Bldr) Aderibigbe Asunmo, clinched the Education Support Personality of the Year Award, in recognition of his immense contribution to Education Sector in his domain. He was praised for providing a block of classrooms for pupils and Lodging for Corps Members in his Kingdom;and his continuous efforts in improving education in Odo Ayandelu and Epe Division in general.

The climax of the occasion came when the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Education District III of Lagos State, Dr(Mrs) Olufolayimika Ayandele Abiose was announced as the Winner of the Exemplary Leadership Award of the Year. Members of her entourage, who were mostly Principals from various Secondary Schools in EPe Division, and some staff of the district,whose number dominated the event, could not hide their joy as they celebrated their leader in songs, with standing ovation and resounding applauses.

According to the NGO, Mrs Ayandele leadership style has brought great improvement to education in the division. It was also stated that her contribution to Epe development cannot be over emphasized.

Speaking on the honour conferred on her, Mrs Ayandele, told Journalists at the event that the best WAEC result came from her district, amongst other good things, because all the stakeholders are working well with her to achieve their goals. She lauded CNI for bringing the good works of the district to the fore through the award, as she commended Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, for giving first priority to education in the state. She noted that this was responsible for success in schools in Lagos State. After reiterating her district commitment to quality education for students, the Tutor General, advised all students to be serious with their studies.

COVID-19 palliative Response Personality of the Year Award, went to the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Onasanya Shakirudeen, for his prompt and continuous response to COVID-19 palliative call for the people of Epe. During Press interview, Dr. Onasanya, promised to continue to help Lagosians, saying that the State Government will not relent in its effort to develop Agriculture in the state.

The people at the event, were pushed into remembrance when Post Humous Award was announced for Late KLM in recognition of his indelible contribution to numerous lives in Epe Division, Lagos State and Nigeria, generally.

The Award Plaque was received by his son, Mr. Bayo Razak, who told Journalists that there is nothing better than service to humanity. This he described as his father legacy and wished that the livings can key to helping one another and be in peace and harmony always. He thanked CNI for remembering the good quotas of his late father to development in Epe today.

Others given awards at the event included, The Media Aide to the Executive Chairman of Epe Local Government Area, Mr. Mark Osifeko, who won Public Relations Personality of the Year Award, in recognition of his public enlightenment and prompt action on diverse issues of public concern in the division. A Journalist, who writes for Epe News, Miss Udoh Christiana Joy, clinched the Most Resourceful Youth of the Year.

Mrs Ameen Abdulquadri ,got Youth Influencer of the Year Award; Baale Ora Community, High-Chief Peter Oriyomi Ogungbesan, got the Philanthropist Personality of the Year, in recognition of his rare Philanthropic gesture; amongst other awards and awardees of the day

Earlier on,in his Welcome Address, the Project Director for EDCAA, who doubles as CNI President, Mr. Idris Tele-Olukoya, told the gathering that the main motive of the event is to annually celebrate the Heroes who had taken their time to project, promote and develop Epe Division in their own various capacities.

“The Community Award was set up with a mission to change the mindset of Nigerians and awaken in us the spirit of nationalism and hard work by developing positive attitude that success through hard work is more fulfilling and rewarding. We have also continued to send the message of hope to the future generations on various platforms including publications on Newspapers, Radio and Television”
stated.

Speaking on the process adopted in getting the Awardees, Mr. Idris said, “we have over the past three months been in contact with various agencies related to the different award categories for today, gone through various nominations on-line and the selection committee worked tirelessly to coordinate and finally arrived at our Awardees whose exemplary achievements are an inspiration and a beacon of hope to us all”.

He did not forget to thank CNI donors and everyone that graced the event.
