A 35-year-old prophetess, Folake Olasode, and a 31-year-old schoolteacher, Damilola Aboloyinijo, were arraigned on Monday before the Lagos State Magistrate Court in Tinubu for allegedly preparing a fake protection charm and fraudulently obtaining N8 million from their victim EKO HOT BLOG gathered
The two defendants are facing five charges brought against them by the police, including conspiracy, theft, obtaining under false pretenses, unlawful assault, and breach of public peace.
The Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police Francis Igbinosa, informed the court that Olasode and Aboloyinijo, whose residential addresses were not disclosed, allegedly committed these offenses in May 2024.

Igbinosa stated that the defendants conspired to carry out the crimes at 7A Jide Agbalaya Street, Chevy-View, Lekki, Lagos.
According to the prosecutor, the defendants, along with others still at large, obtained N8 million from one Sarah Umeh by falsely claiming to have prepared protective charms and applied incisions on her and her three children for protection against death.
Igbinosa further alleged that the defendants unlawfully assaulted Umeh and her three children by making incisions on their bodies with a razor blade, under the guise of offering protection.
The defendants were also accused of causing a public disturbance by burning charms in a calabash within Umeh’s compound.
The offenses, as stated by the prosecutor, are in violation of Sections 411, 314, 287, 172, 287, and 168 (d) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Their counsel, Moses Enema, requested bail for his clients, noting that they were first-time offenders. Magistrate Aderemi Gbajumo granted bail to each defendant in the amount of N750,000, with two sureties each in like sum.
The magistrate stipulated that the sureties must have a valid means of livelihood and identification, and they must provide evidence of Lagos State Residents’ Registration. The prosecutor was instructed to verify their addresses.
The case was adjourned until October 14, 2024, for trial.
