In Abuja on Monday, hundreds of Nigerians staged a major protest against skyrocketing fuel prices, persistent shortages, and worsening economic conditions.
Led by Abdullahi Bilal of the Two Million Man March Against Oil Scam Cabal, alongside Barrister Napoleon Otache and Olayemi Isaac from the Citizens and Economic Freedom Rights Activists in Nigeria (CEFRAN), demonstrators demanded urgent reforms in the oil sector, condemning what they described as government mismanagement of Nigeria’s oil resources.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the protesters expressed outrage over soaring fuel prices and persistent fuel queues, which they argued are driving inflation and deepening poverty nationwide.
They criticized the existing fuel subsidy, asserting that it only benefits a select few while leaving ordinary Nigerians to bear the high costs. Demanding full deregulation of the oil sector, the protesters called for measures to ensure transparency, competition, and fairer fuel pricing.
The protest also targeted the issue of adulterated fuel imports, which they labeled a corrupt practice that harms vehicles, disrupts businesses, and affects daily life.
Frustration was voiced over unfulfilled promises regarding the Dangote Refinery, which was expected to end Nigeria’s dependence on fuel imports despite substantial investment in refinery development.
Protesters highlighted the economic impact of the crisis, pointing to an inflation rate exceeding 24% and a 200% increase in fuel prices, which they said is pushing more Nigerians into hardship.
They urged President Bola Tinubu to prioritize the needs of citizens by reforming leadership within the oil sector and enforcing greater accountability.
Speaking to the press, Abdullahi Bilal said, “This Two Million Man March represents the voices of Nigerians betrayed by a system enriching a few at the expense of many.
We call for the resignation of those managing the oil sector, as they have failed to control fuel prices and ensure stability. Nigerians deserve the removal of the subsidy system and full deregulation to bring fairness and competition to the oil industry.”
Echoing these demands, Barrister Otache and Olayemi Isaac called for an end to fuel queues and accountability for the importation of substandard fuel, despite quality control assurances.
They vowed to continue protesting until tangible changes are implemented to resolve these long-standing issues.
