APC governors and President Tinubu are meeting privately to address and possibly prevent a planned nationwide protest from August 1-15, while Afenifere supports the protest, blaming Tinubu’s policies.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. This comes amidst the Federal Government’s struggle to pacify aggrieved Nigerians over the proposed protest slated for August 1 to 15.
According to Daily Trust, governors who arrived at the Villa in a bus were immediately ushered into the President’s office. Among those sighted were Hope Uzodimma (Imo), Uba Sani (Kaduna), and Bassey Otu (Cross River).
The meeting is connected with efforts by the government to stop the planned nationwide protest.
Meanwhile, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural and political group, Afenifere, has blamed the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s government for the planned nationwide protest in the country. The group, which spoke through its publicity secretary, Justice Faloye, said it supports the protest but warned against violence.
Faloye stated the group’s position during an interview on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Thursday. While Afenifere won’t participate in the actual protest, it fully supports the protesters.
The pan Yoruba group said hunger and harsh economic policies are responsible for the planned protest, adding that the palliatives introduced by the Tinubu government have been superficial.
