PDP’s Lere Olayinka urges President Tinubu to focus on governance and dismisses the threat of an imagined nationwide protest by Nigerian youths.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Lere Olayinka, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged President Bola Tinubu’s government to stop being disturbed by what he calls an imaginary nationwide protest.
Nigerian youths, displeased with the current economic reality, have vowed to stage protests across the country from August 1 to 10. In response, President Tinubu and the 36 state governors have been holding a series of meetings to prevent the protests.

Tinubu has also asked the intending protesters for more time, assuring them that his administration is committed to addressing the country’s hardships and other issues.
In a statement on Friday, Olayinka, former Chief Press Secretary to ex-Governor of Ekiti State Ayo Fayose, urged the government to remain focused on its duties, insisting that no one is planning any protest.
Olayinka argued that protests are spontaneous reactions to issues, not premeditated events, citing the example of recent protests in Kenya.
He said, “Protests are not planned and held by giving one month’s notice. it is either the government is distracting itself on top nothing or the noise about the protest is being used to distract Nigerians.
“Protests are spontaneous reactions to issues, not what is planned for months. The one in Kenya was a spontaneous reaction to the passage of the bill to impose more taxes on the people. It did not start months after the bill had been passed, it started immediately.

“Therefore, the government and its agencies should stop promoting and advertising an imaginary protest that I am not sure anyone is planning. Or how many Nigerians were aware of any protest before the government started speaking about it?”
