BREAKING: Protesters Crowd National Assembly Over Dangote, NNPCL Rift

A coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) protested at the National Assembly on Friday, voicing concerns over the unresolved issues between the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) and Dangote Refinery, which they say negatively impact Nigerians, especially regarding fuel availability and pricing.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that the CSOs stressed the importance of NNPCL complying with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to supply crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in Naira, a measure they argue would boost local refining capacity, reduce dependence on imported petroleum products, and stabilize fuel prices.

In August 2024, the coalition revealed plans to establish a situation room to monitor NNPCL’s adherence to this directive, signaling their commitment to holding the corporation accountable.

The protest also highlighted broader issues within Nigeria’s oil sector, such as the inactivity of government-owned refineries, which has led to a heavy reliance on imported fuel.

The CSOs demanded comprehensive reforms to revitalize the oil industry, ensure transparency, and protect the interests of Nigerian citizens, as public dissatisfaction with the state of the oil industry continues to grow.
