Eko Hot Blog reports that the disputed Edo APC governorship primary held on Saturday continues to create chaos, with the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner affirming only results from the venue communicated by the national leadership will be recognized. Meanwhile, angry protesters have occupied the party’s state secretariat demanding the removal of the State Working Committee.
Three conflicting results emerged from the primary Dennis Idahosa at Protea Hotel, Monday Okpebholo at Lushville Hotel, and Anamero Dekeri.
REC Anugbum Onuoha stated INEC was only mandated by APC headquarters to monitor Lushville Hotel.
On Monday, hundreds of youths and women forced their way into the APC secretariat, vowing to remain for seven days until the SWC is dissolved.
They accuse the executives of sabotage and betraying the party’s chosen nominee, Idahosa. State Publicity Secretary Peter Uwadiae promised an official response soon.
Separately, an angry Dekeri marched into APC national headquarters demanding his certificate of return as winner, prompting a closed-door meeting with Chairman Ganduje.
The SWC’s Acting Chairman Jarret Tenebe called for calm, saying only the national leadership can declare the authentic winner.
Andrew Emwanta resigned from APC over the “flawed process,” compromising his ability to support any “decent candidate.” REC Onuoha warned aspirants and parties to stop unauthorized campaigns or face sanctions.
The turmoil within Edo APC continues as protesters push for accountability from party executives. INEC maintains they will only accept results from the venue APC leadership specified.
