Protesters in Plateau State comply with the curfew, while hoodlums clash with security forces in parts of Jos, leading to arrests and efforts to prevent violence.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that protesters in Plateau State have complied with the government-imposed curfew in the Jos/Bukuru metropolis, though hoodlums have taken to the streets in parts of Jos.
Security agents are actively working to contain them and prevent violence.
The usual protest site at Old Airport Junction was deserted as protesters stayed indoors. However, the State Police Command has deployed officers to handle resistance from hoodlums in Dilimi and nearby areas in Jos North local government.
These young hoodlums, armed with dangerous weapons, attempted to loot shops in the city center. Several individuals were arrested for defying the curfew.
The curfew was imposed after hoodlums broke into shops along Bauchi Road and the Zololo area of Jos North.
State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, appealed for compliance with the curfew, stating, “In line with the Plateau State Government’s imposed 24-hour curfew following the actions of unscrupulous elements amidst the peaceful protest in the State, the Plateau State Police Command has robustly made deployments to various areas within Jos/Bukuru metropolis to prevent further breakdown of law and order.”
Alabo highlighted intelligence reports suggesting that hoodlums are planning to cause mayhem and are on the verge of hijacking the peaceful protest to loot shops within the state’s commercial areas.
“The Plateau State Police Command is poised to maintain peace in the State and will not allow any person or group of individuals to plunge the State into unruly turmoil.
“It is our constitutional responsibility to protect lives and property and ensure public safety, we are fully committed to ensuring that criminals do not execute their evil plans. Plateau residents are warned to comply with the State Government curfew as anyone found violating the directive will be arrested and prosecuted under the extant laws of the land.”
