Protests Rock Ibadan Over Naira Notes

EKO HOT BLOG reports that protests erupted in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Nigeria, as bank customers took to the streets to express their frustration over the inability to withdraw new Naira notes.

The scarcity of the newly redesigned N200, N500, and N1000 banknotes, recently introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been a nationwide issue.

The CBN had directed commercial banks to fill their ATMs with the new notes and also allowed the exchange of old notes until February 10, 2023.

However, many customers who went to withdraw money at various banks in Ibadan on Friday encountered difficulties and staged protests in areas such as Agodi Gate, Idi Ape, and Iwo Road.
