Eko Hot Blog reports that the Chairman and CEO of Eko Hot Blog, Otunba T.J. Abass, has made a passionate appeal to the organisation’s staff members to pursue their passion without hesitation.
He made the appeal at the company’s staff retreat in Epe, Lagos State, during the weekend.
Otunba Abass, who urged his employees to embrace their passion, took them down memory lane, explaining what led him to create Eko Hot Blog.
The news publisher said he established the organisation after his retirement from active duty, noting that it is never too late for someone to pursue their aspirations, learn new skills, and better their lives.
According to Otunba Abass, his aspiration to create a media empire motivated him to attend journalism school at an old age.
“Let me take you down memory lane. After I retired, I asked myself, ‘what next?’. All my life, I was taking care of other people’s dreams. So, I decided to create Eko Hot Blog. It’s not about the pecuniary benefits; I’m not in it for the money, it’s about doing what I want,” he said to the staff members in attendance.
“I want you all to see this as a teachable moment. ‘I want to pursue this because I have passion for it, not because there is money in it. You see people today, they want to do Banking and Finance, Business Administration, and other popular courses because they are popular. They don’t want to do things that they have passion for.
“So, after I retired, I asked myself, ‘what should I do’ I’ve always wanted to be in the media, so I realised that this was the right time for me to do it. So, I went back to school to do my postgraduate studies in journalism. Some of you [staff] were my classmates. That was what led to the birth of Eko Hot Blog and what led to the birth of the YouTube Channel.
“So, this is a lesson for every one of us. A vision is about continuing; you just have to continue. It is not too late for you to have a dream. It is not too late for you to have a goal. That is how you will better yourself in life.”
Otunba Abass also revealed how his motivation to project the development of his hometown, Epe, made him create the media organisation.
“Since we started, we have continuously made an impact in society, especially in the Epe community here.
One thing that actually prompted me to do this was thinking to myself; ‘how can I can you this to harness the resources in our community, how can I use this to advance the cause of our community, how can I use this to ensure the development of Epe community and I think we’ve done that in our little way.
“We will continue to do that because TVC will not carry our news in this community. LTV8 will not carry out the news. Even if they do, it would be just a little bit. You know they are gatekeepers, they censor here and there. But we, anything that is good about our community, we will send it out. Not negative news; don’t call us for negative news.
“Again, I want to thank all of you for coming. I know it’s not easy dealing with me but one thing I keep telling people is, if you do it right, there won’t be a problem.”
