EKO HOT BLOG reports that due to a sprained back, Queen Elizabeth will not attend today’s Remembrance Service at the London Cenotaph for the War Dead.
According to Buckingham Palace, her Majesty is ‘disappointed’ to be unable to attend the occasion.
The event would have been the queen’s first public appearance since being ordered to rest after a night in the hospital last month.
Since then, she had missed a number of public engagements, including the COP26 Climate Summit in Glasgow.
On Saturday evening, she was also absent from a festival honouring the nation’s war dead.
The world’s oldest and longest-reigning monarch went to the hospital last month for “preliminary investigations” into an unspecified ailment.
While the queen has been seen on social media welcoming dignitaries, the palace claimed the 95-year-old was determined to attend the Cenotaph, when members of the royal family join representatives of the government, military, and veterans to remember those who died in war.
Held on the nearest Sunday to Nov. 11 to recall the end of World War One, the sight of the queen at the annual event was expected to be one of the defining images of her 69-year reign: head bowed, wearing black and displaying a red poppy.
