In keeping with the club’s long-standing tradition, the newly admitted members stood in formation before bowing to receive their official Island Club sashes, a symbolic rite marking their transition into second-generation members of one of Nigeria’s oldest and most respected social organisations.
The newly inducted members are Idris Abolaji Okoya, Usman Olatunji Okoya, Jubril Adedoyo Okoya, and Rahim Olashubomi Okoya.
For the Okoya family, the induction represents more than membership of an exclusive social club. It reflects a deliberate succession plan designed to prepare the family’s younger generation for leadership, networking and greater responsibilities within both the business and social landscape.
Over the years, Alhaji Rasaq Okoya has consistently spoken about the importance of grooming his children to sustain the family’s legacy and eventually oversee the vast Eleganza Group, one of Nigeria’s foremost indigenous manufacturing conglomerates.
His wife, Dr. Shade Okoya, has equally played a central role in nurturing the family while actively participating in the growth and management of the family’s business interests.
Founded several decades ago, the Island Club remains one of Lagos’ most prestigious private clubs, with a rich history of promoting social interaction, intellectual engagement and networking among accomplished professionals, captains of industry and public office holders.

Membership of the club has long been regarded as a symbol of prestige and influence, providing a platform where generations of leaders connect, exchange ideas and preserve traditions.
The induction of the Okoya children therefore underscores the family’s continued commitment to positioning the next generation within influential circles, ensuring they are equipped with the relationships, exposure and values required to sustain the legacy established by their parents.
Beyond business success, the Okoya family has remained one of Nigeria’s most recognisable families, admired for its entrepreneurial achievements, philanthropy and commitment to building a lasting family institution.
