Popular R&B singer Iyanya has been appointed as the senior special assistant (SSA) on tourism and entertainment to Ben Ayade, governor of Cross River state.
The singer who got popular via his hit track ‘Kukere’ would not be the first entertainer to be given a political appointment.
Iyanya’s appointment was announced in a statement by Christian Ita, the senior special adviser (SSA) on media and publicity to Ayade.
According to the statement, twenty-six others were also appointed as aides. It added that the appointment takes immediate effect.
Ubi Franklin, the showbiz mogul and artiste manager, took to his Instagram page to congratulate Iyanya on the appointment.
“Congratulations @iyanya on your Appointment as Senior Special Assistant To The Governor Of Cross River State @sirbenayade On Tourism and Entertainment,” he wrote, as congratulatory messages continue to pour in on the comment section.
Recall that the Afropop singer became popular after winning the second edition of MTN Project Fame, a music talent show, in 2008.
He had started his music career in the R&B genre where he thrived with ‘Love Truly’ and ‘Iyanya’, two hit songs on ‘My Story’, his 2009 album.
Following the underwhelming performance of the aforementioned singles and the lack of commercial acceptability, Iyanya subsequently switched to Afropop.
