She was responding to a tweet on Twitter that appeared to promote the contributions of Nigerians to the Dubai economy.
Twitter user, Dr. Ola Brown, had tweeted that, “Someone once argued with me that the economy in Dubai will collapse without Nigerians”, in response to another tweet that said Nigerians are not among the top 10 visitors to the emirate city.

But responding to Brown’s tweet, Dabiri-Erewa disparaged the conduct of Nigerians living in Dubai.
“Unfortunately, the sad reality is that our crime rate over there is one of the highest,” the chairman of the commission responsible for supporting Nigerians in the diaspora, tweeted on Wednesday.

Immediately, her comments generated mixed reactions from Twitter users.
Some expressed support for the NiDCOM boss’s comment, saying she was brutally honest.
However, the comment angered others who wondered why the person who was supposed to be supporting Nigerians in the diaspora was the one disparaging them.
Here are some of the mixed reactions to Dabiri-Erewa’s tweet:
Yes your crime rate
Those who sponsor terrorism that you and your principal chose to protect

It's intentional. They're trying to stop youths from finding sanctuary abroad by de-marketing us. The result? Rejected visa applications or visa bans

Unfortunately, the sad reality is that u make ur point without a proof. There should be evidence to back your claim.
There is no country without a criminal but other countries ensure the few bad eggs do not misrepresent them in another country. They don't go on SM to expose them.— Ahmed Kayode™ 💙 (@Declassicoo) October 26, 2022
Sorry ma, you are so pain and unpatriotic to your country, if your children are bad, is this how you will constantly discredit, and discriminate them outside? Nigeria has more good Legacy in diaspora, but you choose to amplify the bad once. I wonder if you are a Nigerian.

Why would the truth be offensive?? She's just being honest! Then again, a lot of Nigerians find it difficult to accept the truth.

Are you just a Pessimist when it comes to Nigeria and Nigerians in diaspora?
— Emmysiasia (@ECOnuoha) October 26, 2022
A very sad reality indeed. Nigerians want honest leaders but at the same time want to continue in dishonesty.

Can you give us proof that Nigeria has the highest crime rate in Dubai.? Let's put the truth out. Nigerians have been trooping Dubai long before now, so why the sudden spike in crime by Nigerians in Dubai?
— Franc🀄 (@franklin2times) October 26, 2022
Since you call Nigerians criminals, cultist and drug dealers without investigation, what do you expect from UAE?
You have passed judgement on the citizens already.

Recall that the UAE had on Friday slammed a visa ban on citizens of Nigeria and 19 other African countries.
In a notice issued to trade partners, the UAE government informed travel agents and authorities that “all applications should be rejected.”
Meanwhile, Wednesday was not the first time Dabiri-Erewa has been involved in disparaging Nigerians in diaspora.
As recent as last week, she responded to an insult on Twitter saying, Nigerians go to Indonesia, carry drugs, and come begging the Nigerian government to rescue them from death sentence.
“Ode! You go to Indonesia, carry drugs, do cultism and come begging to be rescued from death sentence . Thank God for @ndlea_nigeria now saving people like you from death row,” the NiDCOM chairman tweeted.
