EKO HOT BLOG reports that Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone, has accused referees and the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) of always favouring their rivals,
Real Madrid, after their recent 1-1 draw in the La Liga. Simeone made the claim following the red card shown to Angel Correa in the 64th minute of the match. Referee Gil Manzano had sent off Correa for elbowing Antonio Rudiger’s chest with the scoreline at 0-0.
While speaking to DAZN after the game, Simeone argued that the offence may only have been a yellow card and taking a player off the field for it was unjustifiable.
He further stated that the refereeing bias towards Real Madrid had become commonplace and it was not right, adding that it would be fairer if all teams competed on an even playing field.
“It’s the same story. It is normal, and it has become normal [refereeing favouring Madrid] and that’s not right and it would be nice if we could all compete in the same way,”
Simeone said. Atletico Madrid, who currently sit at the top of the La Liga table with 58 points, will face Getafe on Tuesday in their next league fixture.
