Real Madrid Fan Suspended For ‘Disloyal’ Comments After Barcelona Defeat

The Real Madrid Fans Club in Kwalam, Jigawa, has suspended member Abbati Soja over alleged misconduct and perceived disloyalty to the club.

In a statement issued by club chairman Garzali Nfari and secretary Aliyu Tabulet, the suspension was attributed to Soja’s “discouraging” remarks following Real Madrid’s 4-0 defeat to rivals Barcelona in La Liga.

The statement noted that Soja had publicly suggested that Real Madrid would not accomplish much this season.

“That sentiment affected the morale of other members.

“The suspension is effective from Oct. 28, following a meeting of the Fan Club’s Executive Council; he remains suspended till May 28, 2025. That day coincides with the end of the football season,” it said.

The suspension has ignited debate among fans, sparking discussions on what loyalty truly means in sports fandom.

Some argue that enforcing strict penalties could be counterproductive, especially as fan clubs globally work to expand membership and embrace a more inclusive culture.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Barcelona secured a 4-0 victory over Real Madrid at the Bernabeu in the season’s first El Clasico on October 26.

With this win, Barcelona moved six points ahead of Real Madrid after 10 league matches.
