The unions are demanding that the planned demolition of aviation agencies’ headquarters in Lagos be halted, as well as advocating for the implementation of the conditions of service signed with the staff of the aviation agencies.
Despite representatives of the unions attending the meeting called by the Director-General, Civil Aviation, Capt. Musa Nuhu, and the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Aviation, Dr Emmanuel Meribole, no resolution was reached.
The Deputy General Secretary of ATSSSAN, Frances Akinjole, confirmed in a short interview that nothing had changed after the meeting and that the strike would continue unless the unions hear otherwise from the General Secretary.
The strike has caused significant disruptions to air travel, leaving many passengers stranded. The situation highlights the need for the aviation industry and the government to address the demands of the unions to avoid further disruptions to air travel in the country.
This strike is the latest in a series of industrial actions by various unions in Nigeria, with workers in other sectors also demanding improved working conditions and better remuneration. It underscores the need for the government to address the concerns of workers to ensure industrial harmony and avert future strikes.
