In a poignant tribute to the late John Edward Teye Pecku, who passed away on February 6, 2024, at the age of 97, Eko Hot Blog reports that funeral plans have been unveiled to honor the distinguished man’s life and legacy.
The commemorative events are set to commence with a Night of Songs on February 23 at the Redeemed Christian Church of God’s Isaac Generation Assembly in Houston from 7-9 PM.
This musical evening aims to celebrate the joyful spirit and generosity that characterized Mr. Pecku’s life.
On February 24, the formal proceedings will begin with the burial service at the All Peoples’ Funeral Home in Rosharon, TX.
The family viewing is scheduled from 10-10:30 AM, allowing close relatives and friends an intimate moment to bid their final farewells.
Following the family viewing, the funeral service will take place from 10:30-11:30 AM, commemorating Mr. Pecku’s distinguished career, service to the nation, and the love he shared with his family. An interment service will follow at South Park Funeral Home in Houston from 12:15-12:45 PM.
To conclude the day’s events, a reception will be held at the Exclusive Ballroom Hall in Houston from 1-7 PM, offering an opportunity for friends, family, and well-wishers to come together, share memories, and honor Mr. Pecku’s enduring legacy.
Born on July 4, 1926, in Lagos, Mr. Pecku had a distinguished career that included serving as Secretary to the Executive Council during colonial rule.
His commitment to public service continued post-independence, with roles in various ministries, foreign service, and the cabinet office, including service under President Shehu Shagari.
In 1959, he married his beloved wife, Iyabode Adefolake Pecku, with whom he shared six children. Known for his unwavering faith, boundless generosity, and joyful spirit, Mr. Pecku made it a priority to celebrate and uplift his loved ones.
Tunde Pecku, son of the late Mr. Pecku and former manager of British Airways, spoke warmly of his father, highlighting his loving nature, impactful legacy, and the lessons he imparted.
“Tunde Pecku reflects on his father’s legacy, saying, ‘My father was not just a patriarch; he was a guiding light. His values, dedication, and love for family have left an indelible mark on all who knew him. His legacy will continue to inspire us.'”
Dr. Olu Mcgguinis Otubushi, cousin to the deceased, also shared heartfelt sentiments, stating, “John Edward Teye Pecku was more than family; he was a beacon of wisdom and kindness. His contributions to our nation and his unwavering commitment to family and faith will be remembered with great reverence.”

Notable figures have already flown in to honor the late statesman, reflecting the far-reaching influence and regard he commanded.
