EKO HOT BLOG reports that the The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the just-concluded election, Peter Obi, has expressed sadness over the death of the former Chief of General Staff, Lt. General Oladipo Diya (rtd).

In a post via his verified Twitter handle on Sunday, Obi said the service of the deceased to the people and the nation, in different capacities, will always be remembered.

The former Governor of Anambra State conveyed his most profound condolences to the Diya family on the death of their patriarch on Sunday.

Obi prayed to God Almighty to grant the family the fortitude to bear this colossal loss and grant peaceful repose to his soul.

He wrote: “My family and I convey our most profound condolences to the Diya family on the death of their patriarch, Lt- General Donaldson Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya (Rtd) GCON. His service to the people and the nation, in different capacities, will always be remembered.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Diya Family as we pray to God Almighty to grant the family the fortitude to bear this colossal loss and grant peaceful repose to his soul. -PO”

Diya, who served as the Chief of General Staff to the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha, died in the early hours of Sunday.

His death was announced in a statement by his son, Prince Oyesinmilola Diya, on Sunday morning.

It read, “On behalf of the entire Diya family home and abroad; we announce the passing on to glory of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, Lt-General Donaldson Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya (rtd) GCON, LLB, BL, PSC, FSS, mni.
