EKO HOT BLOG reports that renowned political analyst and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has lauded the President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government for the recent unveiling of Nigeria Air.
Reno Omokri took to Twitter to express his support for the government’s initiative and dismissed criticisms directed at Nigeria Air.
The Nigerian government faced allegations of misconduct following reports that the newly arrived Nigeria Air aircraft was owned by Ethiopian Airlines. In response to these concerns, Bashir Ahmad, the Special Assistant on Digital Communications to President Buhari, clarified that Ethiopian Airlines held a significant stake in Nigeria Air.
Omokri, in his tweet, drew attention to the early beginnings of Emirate Airlines, a successful airline that originated in 1985 with two aircraft provided by Pakistan International Airlines. He pointed out that despite its modest start, Emirate Airlines thrived over time.
Reno Omokri emphasized the importance of fair criticism, urging Nigerians to speak up when necessary but cautioned against merely criticizing based on political party affiliation.
The political analyst acknowledged that certain government policies had drawn significant criticism in the past. He cited examples such as the controversial Ruga settlement initiative, the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu, and the perceived northernization of the National Security Council.
However, Omokri argued that Nigeria Air was a commendable idea and even highlighted the benefits of starting the airline with a wet-leased aircraft rather than a brand new one.
While he encouraged Nigerians to hold the government accountable and criticize when necessary, Omokri urged objectivity and fairness. He suggested that if the government performed poorly, they should be criticized accordingly, but if they demonstrated competence, they should be praised with equal enthusiasm.
Omokri’s statement sparked discussions among Nigerians on social media platforms, with some echoing his sentiments and others expressing skepticism about the government’s handling of Nigeria Air.
As the public debates the pros and cons of the initiative, the Buhari administration will continue to face scrutiny and calls for transparency regarding the new national carrier.
The Nigeria Air project represents a significant step towards revitalizing the country’s aviation sector, with hopes of boosting economic growth, improving air travel connectivity, and enhancing Nigeria’s image on the international stage.
Time will tell whether the government’s efforts will bear fruit, as Nigerians closely monitor the progress and impact of Nigeria Air in the coming months.
