‘Don’t Burden Residents with Rent Increases’– Sanwo-Olu Warns Lagos Landlords

EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking on Monday at the commissioning of the Abiola-Ajayi-Ogba and Obawole-Iju-Ishaga road projects, Sanwo-Olu emphasized that these developments aim to ease the challenges faced by residents and should not result in financial burdens.

The newly inaugurated infrastructure includes a 643-meter road, a bridge, and slip roads, replacing the previous temporary wooden bridges that required residents to pay crossing fees.

The governor expressed his commitment to improving the quality of life for Lagosians by addressing issues such as flooding and transportation bottlenecks.

“I appeal to landlords and landowners: do not increase your rents and property prices. The essence of the infrastructure built is to bring relief to the people and not burden residents,” Sanwo-Olu said.

Meanwhile, Minister of Works David Umahi has defended the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project amidst concerns about land encroachments.

He revealed that even the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, had raised concerns about the project affecting his land.

However, President Bola Tinubu assured the monarch that the project was essential for Nigeria’s development.

Umahi dismissed criticism from non-indigenes and accused a particular individual of politicizing the issue. He argued that Tinubu’s actions are in Nigeria’s best interest, adding, “There is no decision Tinubu has ever taken that has failed.”

These developments highlight ongoing efforts by the Lagos State government to improve infrastructure while addressing residents’ concerns about affordability and accessibility.
