Eko Hot Blog reports that Rep. Wale Raji has taken action to save UPE Primary School in Akodo-Ise from the ravages of ocean surge. The legislator has relocated the school to a new site and laid the foundation for a new block of 6 classrooms.
The school was originally located on the coast, but it was repeatedly damaged by ocean surge. The community leaders contacted Rep. Raji for help, and he quickly responded. He purchased an alternative land for the school and arranged for the construction of a new building.
The foundation laying ceremony was held on Tuesday, and it was attended by a number of dignitaries, including the Executive Chairman of Lekki Local Council Development Area, Hon. Razak Kasali; the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University of Education, Ass. Prof. Shittu Moruf; the Supervisor for Environment, Lekki Local Council Development Area, Hon Otuniyi Adeniyi; the Baale of Okun-Ise, Chief Abolore A. O; and other community leaders and members.
In his address, Rep. Raji said that he was committed to the education of the children in his constituency. He said that the new school will provide a safe and conducive learning environment for the pupils.
Ass. Prof. Shittu Moruf thanked Rep. Raji for his intervention, saying that the school is the cradle of knowledge for many prominent sons and daughters of the community. He also mentioned that Rep. Raji has a long history of community service, and has embarked on numerous life-changing projects in the past.
Hon Otuniyi Adeniyi called on the state and federal government to come to the rescue of the communities, and to help avert the current challenge. He also commended Rep. Raji for his intervention, saying that it is a clear demonstration of his commitment to the welfare of his constituents.
Baale Abolore A. O promised the cooperation of the community members with the contractors handling the project. He also thanked Rep. Raji for his kind gesture, saying that he is a true representative of the people.
The foundation laying ceremony was followed by a stakeholders’ meeting, where the community leaders and members discussed the way forward for the relocation of the school.
The relocation of UPE Primary School is a major step forward for the community. It will ensure that the pupils can continue their education without interruption, and it will also help to protect the school from the effects of ocean surge.
